The National University Commission (NUC) has announced that prospective
students seeking admission into tertiary institutions in the country
should not buy any form requesting for Post-UTME screening.
This came as
a re-iteration of the commitment of the NUC to scrap the exercise in
all higher institutions in Nigeria.
“Candidates should NOT buy Post-UTME forms from any tertiary
institution as Post UTME remains cancelled” was the message posted by
NTA’s twitter handle alongside a picture showing The Public Relations
officer of the Nigerian Universities Commission, Ibrahim Yakasai in what
appears to be a on-air interview possibly about the recent policy by
the FG.
The comment solidifies the stance by the FG to scrap the Post UTME
and also allow institutions the chance to screen candidates sent to them
by JAMB – However the means, or details of what FG Means by screening
is still up for anyone’s comprehension as they didn’t make it clear and
Some Universities do infact call their Post Utme Exams “Post-UTME
Screening Exercise”.
In a related development, the management of University of Portharcourt
(UNIPORT) has announced the commencement of the Post-UTME against a
clear directive from the NUC in a national daily. Earlier the NUC
scrapped Post-UTME exams in order to allow the Joint Admission and
Matriculation Board (JAMB) perform their statutory duty of conducting
entrance examinations into tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
