Speaking
of the show, the fourth episode of the karaoke-based competition went
on air on the 6th of December, and what a fantastic episode it was with
the contestants performing songs by various popular African artistes.
Nigerian
superstar, Yemi Alade, who is one of the show’s judges, the others
being rap sensation M.I. Abaga and Bien-Aimé Baraza of the globally
acclaimed Kenyan afro-pop band Sauti Sol, was looking hot in her cowgirl
costume and she really wanted the contestants to wear their best smile
and put on their best performance.
The
first contestant to perform was Mary from Kenya who sang ‘Loliwe’, by
Zahara, and Yemi enjoyed her performance and even tried to sing along,
even though, as she later admitted, she didn’t understand the words from
the song.
Next
was Shaapera from Nigeria who sang ‘Woju’, by Kiss Daniel. Shapeera, as
usual, put on a show, but Yemi felt she was too comfortable during her
performance especially as Shaapera had raised the bar in the previous
episode. However, Bien said he couldn’t wait to buy Shapeera’s album.
The
third contestant was Banye from Tanzania who rendered one of Diamond
Platnumz’s hit tracks, ‘My Number One’. But Bien had issues with his
voice, while Yemi couldn’t understand why Banye wore Nike shoes to go
with his African attire!
Tosin from Nigeria sang ‘Show’, by
Victoria Kimani, and forgot her lines in the middle of the song but
quickly picked up. Afterwards, M.I. told her not to let the judges down,
and reminded her that as it was a karaoke show she should endeavour to
make use of the Karaoke board whenever she felt lost. Bien and Yemi also
admonished her to buckle up next time.
Thereafter it was the turn
of Zooccu to take to the stage where she sang ‘Sisikii’, by Jux, and
Yemi could tell from the performance of the lovely Tanzanian that she
enjoyed her choice of song.
Jeff
Mduma, also from Tanzania, was up next and he sang ‘Kioo’, by Kenyan
superstar, Jaguar, with so much swag and got a standing ovation from the
audience. And Bien was glad that Jeff was able to bounce back from his
unimpressive performance of the previous episode, while M.I. commended
him for fighting for his spot on stage. Yemi also said she loved his
performance.
It
was then time for the elimination round and Bien revealed the three
contestants to be put up for possible eviction. They were Tosin from
Nigeria, and the Tanzanian duo of Mary and Banye.
Unfortunately
for Banye, he was the one picked by the judges, and the episode ended
with a recap of Banye’s previous performances and his final message.
